BARCELONA lives the dream


The Kenyan Florence Kiplagat sets a new world record in Half Marathon in 1:05:12

Eliud Kipchoge , achieves his second victory in Barcelona, as in the past edition, with  01:00:52

02/16/14 - Today, Barcelona has capitalised the sporting news of the day. Almost 15.000 runners and a huge cheering crowd had coloured the streets of Barcelona in the 24th edition of the eDreams Mitja Marató de Barcelona.

A five star elite, headed by the Kenyan Eliud Kipchoge and his national colleague Florence Kiplagat, had largely accomplished their respective goals. A perfect shape, extra motivation and 13 degrees Celsius  were the perfect assets for Kiplagat to set an historic mark and putted Barcelona in the edge of the world athletic news.

The Kenyan lead the race from the start to the end. She took the lead at the start and crossed the line in P1. She was running in the perfect time around km. 10 (31.08), and it improved her expectations when she set 46:35 in km. 15. Kiplagat managed really well all over the race until she set the new world record in 1:05:12. She was helped by the peacemakers Marc Roig and  Stanley Siroro ..

Kiplagat set the best ever time in the  eDreams Mitja Marató de Barcelona as well, improving the time that Atsede Baysa set in  2013, (1:07:34), besides achieving the New World Record. The former record has been beaten by 38 seconds. The Kenyan has also improved her best personal record, achieved in Rome in 2012  (01.06.38). The ladies podium was completed by Nicola Duncan and  Paula Todoran .

In men’s,  the winner of the race, Eliud Kipchoge , has set a time of 1:00:52 .
