14.02.2025 – This Sunday, February 16, 2025, the 35th edition of the eDreams Mitja Marató by Brooks will set a new participation record for the third consecutive year, with 30,000 bibs sold. This milestone makes the Barcelona half-marathon the most crowded half marathon in Spain and the second largest in Europe for the second time in its history, while continuing to be one of the few half-marathons in the world with a Gold label.

In addition, 40% of participants will be international, coming from 95 different countries, repeating the highest number in this aspect of the event, while 45% of the remaining 60% are from the province of Barcelona. Barcelona half-marathon also has more women than ever before, with 12,000 female runners this year, representing 40% of the total participants (compared to 35% last year). The average age of the runners has also decreased, with 55% of participants being under 35 years old, specifically 42% aged between 25 and 34.

From 8:30 AM to 12:00 PM, vehicle traffic will be prohibited on all roads along the course, so the metro is recommended for transportation in the area.

“We close 2024 with the women’s world record in the Cursa dels Nassos and start 2025 with another record: historical participation in the eDreams Mitja Marató Barcelona by Brooks. Our city is ready; everything is set for a unique edition of this race this Sunday. With 30,000 runners, our streets will be filled with emotion, overcoming challenges, and, above all, sportsmanship,” says David Escudé, Sports Councillor of the Barcelona City Council.

On his part, Cristian Llorens, director of ASSETS at RPM SPORTS by Experienta, explains that the eDreams Mitja Marató Barcelona by Brooks 2025 “once we reach the magical number of 30,000 runners, faces a great challenge: aspiring to be the best half marathon in the world. The city of Barcelona is the ideal setting and is ready for thousands of runners to live an unforgettable experience. Additionally, we have enhanced the sports aspect. In 2025, we will have the best lineup of international elite athletes in the history of our event. Leading the men’s category are Jacob Kiplimo (57:31), the second-best time in world history, and Geoffrey Kamworor (58:01), former world record holder for the distance and three-time world champion. In the women’s category, we have Joyciline Jepkosgei (64:29), world silver medalist, and Gladys Chepkirui (65:46). We have high hopes of breaking circuit records and achieving world-leading times.”
A great elite starlist aiming to set new records
48 athletes make up the elite list for the eDreams Mitja Marató Barcelona by Brooks 2025, which features a Gold Label circuit, internationally recognized and very fast. 27 men and 21 women share the same goal this Sunday, February 16: to beat the best times of this event: 58:53 for men, set by Charles Kipkkurui Langat in 2023, and 1:04:29 for women, established by Joyciline Jepkosgei last year.

In the women’s category, Jepkosgei returns to Barcelona. The Kenyan aims to claim the top spot on the podium again, as she did in 2024, and, if possible, break the women’s record for the Barcelona half marathon. Her main rival will once again be the same as last year, the Kenyan Gladys Chepkurui, who set her best time in this distance as fourth in the 2023 Barcelona half marathon (1:05:46) and was third in this race last year (1:06:34). The third contender for the podium is fellow Kenyan athlete Nancy Sang, who won the 2024 Rome Half Marathon (1:06:52). Notably, Jessica Warner Judd from the UK, who finished fourth in Barcelona last year (1:07:07), returns this edition aiming for a podium spot, while Carolina Robles, a Spanish athlete, has chosen Barcelona for her debut in this distance.

Joyciline Jepkosgei: “I feel very fortunate to be here again. This Sunday, I want to win again and break the record for this half marathon.”
Gladys Chepkurui: “I have my personal best from last year and the best time on the course, and I am ready to improve it this Sunday.”

In the men’s category, the clear favorite is Jacob Kiplimo from Uganda. His accomplishments back up his status: three appearances in the Olympic Games (Rio 2016, Tokyo 2020, Paris 2024), earning a bronze medal in the 10,000m at Tokyo 2020. Additionally, Kiplimo set the Ugandan national and world record in the Lisbon Half Marathon in 2021 (57:31) and won bronze at the 2020 World Athletics Championships, as well as gold and bronze in the 2020 World Half Marathon Championships. He has also earned five medals at the World Cross Country Championships from 2019 to 2024.

Kiplimo’s strongest competitors will be Geoffrey Kipsang Kamworor from Kenya, the 2025 10,000m World Runner-Upthree-time World Half Marathon Champion (2014, 2016, 2018), who set his personal best in the 2019 Copenhagen Half Marathon (58:01), and his compatriot Roncer Kipkorir Konga, who was third in Barcelona in 2024 (59:27) and achieved his personal best in 2023 by winning the Buenos Aires Half Marathon (59:08).

Meanwhile, Yeman Crippa, the Italian athlete who holds the national half marathon record (59:26) from winning the 2022 Naples race, comes to Barcelona aiming to beat his own record. Also, Morhad Amdouni from France, who set his personal best in 2020 (59:40) at the Gdynia Half Marathon (Poland), will be competing. The Dutch runner Abdi Nageeye, winner of the 2022 Rotterdam MarathonTokyo 2020 Olympic marathon silver, and winner of the 2024 New York Marathon, will also be there, with his best half marathon time (59:55) set in 2019 at the Great North Run in England.

Jacob Kiplimo: “I want to run a good race and compete to win. The goal is to enjoy Barcelona.”
Geoffrey Kamworor: “I am very happy to be in Barcelona. It is one of the fastest courses in the world. I am ready to run a good race this Sunday.”
Abdi Nageeye: “I am preparing for the London Marathon and want to achieve my personal best here.”

The cultural and social connection of the eDreams Mitja Marató Barcelona by Brooks 2025 with its city
In 2025, coinciding with the 50th anniversary of the Fundació Miró, the eDreams Mitja Marató Barcelona by Brooks has chosen the artist as inspiration to color the streets of the Catalan capital through the design of its t-shirt and medal. The t-shirt is based on the ceramic mural in Terminal 2B at Barcelona Airport (1970), while the medal is an adaptation of the Pla de l’Os pavement on La Rambla (1976). This synergy reflects the spirit of Miró, who, with his works, expanded his disruptive and alternative perspective from Barcelona to the rest of the world. This connection is further completed by the official event presentation this Friday at the Fundació Joan Miró.

In line with connecting the eDreams Mitja Marató Barcelona by Brooks 2025 with its city, this year’s Zurich Foundation will make a charitable contribution of 1 euro per finisher to Hospital Sant Joan de Déu.

On the day of the race, the local Barcelona television station, betevé, through its TV, radio, and digital channels, will broadcast the event live and in its entirety. The broadcast will also be available for later viewing on its YouTube channel.

Finally, the great running celebration in Barcelona, as the main novelty of this edition, will culminate with PaRUNda, the official after-race of the Barcelona half marathon. This celebration, open to the public, will take place at the Hivernacle in Poble Espanyol and will feature food trucks and performances from DJ CarreraPiratas RumbversionsDJ Allez, and The Santos from 11 AM to 7 PM, with tickets still available for physical sale at the Expo Sports (Runner’s Fair).
