The eDreams Mitja Marató Barcelona, the best organized Half Marathon in Spain

  • Barcelona’s Half Marathon, awarded for its organization at the Spanish Royal Federation of Athletics Awards Ceremony.

  • The great night of Spanish Athletics has awarded the best athletes of 2020, as well as clubs and institutions, among others, in a year specially complicated for the world of sport, marked by the pandemic.

The eDreams Mitja Marató Barcelona celebrated in 2020 the best edition of its history. A race that has not stopped growing in the last years and that reached in its 30th edition 23,000 runners, reaching for second time in history Sold Out. The record of participants joins the record of female participation with 7,500 women, making it the most popular half marathon in Spain and with the highest number of women runners.

These figures, together with an organization that has always offered the best service to participants, have been rewarded at the Awards Ceremony of the Spanish Royal Federation of Athletics, as the best half marathon organized in Spain. This prize joins the Gold Label medal that the World Athletics gave to the best races held in the world.

Besides the services to the runner, one of the strongest points of the race is the route. A race known for being one of the fastest in the world at this distance, as the Kenyan Florence Kiplagat has demonstrated, who beat 5 world records in two consecutive editions: In 2014 she set world record in 15 km, 20 km and Half Marathon, while one year later, she broke her own record in 20 km and women’s half marathon, with a record of 1:05:09. Only in the last edition, a total of 134 runners finished in less than 1h10’, what demonstrates the speed of the race.

The recognition for the best organization represents a new push for this race, which sets no limits to its growth. The award was collected by Jesús García, CEO of RPM-MKTG, organizing company of the race together with Barcelona’s City Hall, at the Felipe Reyes Sports Centre in Getafe, Madrid, at the prize giving ceremony celebrated on Thursday 24.

Jesús García: “An event as the eDreams Mitja Marató Barcelona, recognized all over the world for its sporting prestige, has been once again rewarded for its efforts with this prize, which will help us to continue growing in both quantity and quality. Our priority has always been to provide the best product to our runners and offer them a premium event in which, besides running, they live a unique experience. We continue working to stay in the elite of the best half marathons in the world and next October we want to return to live a historic day in Barcelona. We would like to thank the involvement in the co-organization and the facilities offered to us at all times by Barcelona’s City Hall, the support of the sponsors who trust in us and who make possible an event of such magnitude, as well as the whole team of professionals of RPM and MKTG Spain who work on the success of this race”

The Half Marathon of Barcelona will celebrate its next edition on October 17 in a weekend where we expect to recover the atmosphere of a TOP event that finds in its host city and its people, the best ally for success.
