IT IS THE MAXIMAL DISTINCTION GRANTED TO AHTLETIC RACES
The eDreams Mitja Marató de Barcelona has managed to renew the Gold Label that the IAAF (International Association of Athletic Federations) gives to the best races celebrated in the world. Thus, the next edition of the half marathon, to be celebrated the 10th of February 2019, ensures to remain in the select group of the most valued races worldwide. A distinction which already had the race in the edition of 2018.
The race has experienced a quality jump in the last years and the pace of inscriptions for the next edition is very good, even superior to that of 2017, when the record of participants was obtained, with 17.800 participants.
The requirements to achieve the Gold Label contemplate parameters as the quantity of elite athletes, the anti-doping controls, the TV diffusion or the services to the runners as the water station points and the pacemakers.
Another important aspect that has served to push the eDreams Mitja Marató de Barcelona is a very fast circuit where world records have been achieved (the Kenyan Florence Kiplagat beat the world feminine record of half marathon in 2014 and 2015) and where popular athletes achieve very good records. In the last edition, Mule Wasihun finished in less than one hour for the first time (59’44”), breaking the previous record of Eliud Kipchoge (60’04”) current world record holder of marathon.
