A luxury participation


The group of athletes of elite that will compete in the Mitja has already come to Barcelona, headed by Abel Kirui, double world champion of marathon.

The athletes of elite who will compete in the Mitja Marató de Barcelona are already in Barcelona. In its 22nd edition, the race will have a luxury participation with the Kenyan Abel Kirui, double world champion of marathon (Berlin 2009 and Daegu 2011) as the most outstanding athlete. Kirui, whose best record in marathon is 2h05’04” and 1h00’01” in half marathon, will have as main competitors two men who accredit record below one hour: his compatriots Jairus Chanchima (59’43) and Peter Kamais (59’53), this last one twice winner of the Cursa del Bombers of Barcelona (2005 and 2006).

In women, Lineth Chepkurui stands out, who accredits 1h07.47 in half marathon and has been three times finalist in the World championship of cross (4th in 2009, 5th in 2010 and 8th in 2011), who at first is favorite before Beatrice Jepchumba, ex world junior champion of 3.000 meters in 2000 who has a record of 1h11’45” in half marathon, Emily Samoei (1h12’27”) and Rael Kiyara (1h13’39”).

The record of participation has been widely broken; there will be necessary to pay attention to the records of the race, which in masculine category has the Kenyan Jacob Yator with 1h01’10” since 2007, and in feminine his compatriot Priscah Jeptoo with 1h10’08’ since the last edition.
